Description:
Handwritten letter from Shigeo Motoike to [Afton] Nance, 1942 Mar 5. 235 Jackson Street Los Angeles March 5, 1942 Dear Mrs. Nance: I am fine, but I wish I were
back at Malaga Cove school. The first day I went to school I did not like it a all but I am getting used to it, Henry is
my only freind at school, and my teacher is very good. I’ll bet Jimmy’s still drawing those goofy inventions whenever theres
time. I hope the class is getting along good, when I saw Catherine’s victory garden I thought It was very good because
there were green stuffs in it. When you said my sister isn’t fat youre wrong, I think she is fat!!! Henry and I always
say youre the best teacher we ever had I do not like the town so well because it is too stuffy, the only thing I like is
the stores, and another thing is because canno’t play anywhere, all you could do is just loaf around and do your homework.
From the first day I moved into town I got a little cold so my mother give me the hicks and let me take medecine and let
me go to bed early. I think there isn’t anything more to write abouts so I’ll stop now, goodby. Yours truly,
Shigeo Motoike
