Description:
Handwritten letter from Mutsuo Hirose to Afton Nance, 1943 December 23. Newell, Calif. December 23, 1243 Dear Mrs Nance Thank you very much for your interesting letter. I’m
sorry I didn’t answer you sooner. I was glad to hear that you went down to Poston. I bet Shigeji, Henry and the other
fellows were more then glad to meet you. I’m glad they made you feel at home over there. There is not much activities going
on now account of this situation but every Saturday s and Sunday I go out to see fellows over here play football. Since
its winter now and cold out side my brother and I decided to get our exercise by boxing practice. Now days I’m figuring
out a way to get a good punch on my brother without getting punched back. I didn’t realize that Christmas was so close ahead.
My Mother sent a little gift to you. It isn’t much to give to a swell lady like you but I hope you like it. I guess I don’t
have much more to say so I will close here. I hope you have a merry Christmas and a swell beginning for the year to come.
Sincerely Yours Mutsuo Hirose
