Farmers Institutes were inaugurated by the University in 1892 and held in California "whenever interest in agriculture was manifest." After the establishment of the Farm at Davis, a series of short courses, usually six weeks in length were begun there. The courses were in demand from various segments of agriculture, in 1909-1910, for example, some one hundred short courses, such as this one in animal husbandry, were held. Dr. Clarence M. Haring, Berkeley Professor of Veterinary Science (far left) participated in the demonstration of throwing a bull.
