Description:
Exterior photograph of men harvesting Texas Red Oats on the Banning Bench near Banning, California. Photograph shows men
using a hay baler.
When the grain had been harvested on the Bench the cattle from the desert range were brought in to fatten for the winter market.
The desert range included water holes at 29 Palms, Surprise Springs, Dead Man, and Coyote Well. The land was government land
for open range cattle feeding but the water holes were developed and owned by the individuals with cattle in the area.
