Description:
Typed letter from E. G. Kennedy, War Relocation Authority to Paul H. Kusuda, 1943 May 4.
WAR RELOCATION AUTHORITY 727 Paul Brown Bldg. St. Louis, Missouri May 4, 1943 Mr. Paul H. Kusuda 32---3---3
Manzanar Relocation Center Manzanar, California Dear Mr. Kusuda: Thank you for your very well written letter of April
30. Your training and experience would seem to fit you for general office work. General office work, as you know, covers
a wide range of duties. At the present time, clerical and office jobs seem to be the slowest to open up in this area.
We have had a contact from Mr. Robert J. Ambruster, Clayton Road and Concordia Lane, St. Louis, Missouri which might interest
you. Mr. Ambruster owns a mortuary. He would like to have a young man who has had some experience contacting the public.
The young man would live in the dormitory and do general clerical work at night. This would mean answering the phone, the
door, and keeping necessary records on these contacts. In addition to these duties, he would expect this man to take care
of the yard, windows, basement, etc. In the past, Mr. Ambruster has been paying $65.00 to $80.00 per month for someone
to take care of the yard and basement. He states that he will pay substantially more for the type of person he now desires.
This salary would depend on the person’s training and experience. May I suggest that you write to Mr. Ambruster outlining
your training and experience and ask him to give you complete details with reference to the job, including a definite salary
offer. Please let us know if you contact Mr. Ambruster. If this offer does not interest you, we will attempt to find some
other type of job for you. Sincerely, E. G. Kennedy (signed) E. G. Kennedy Relocation
Officer
