Description:
Handwritten letter from Mrs. T. Hirose and Mizuye [Hirose], 1942 Dec 27.8K-7-E Amache, Colo. December 27, 1942 Dear Mrs. Nance, Thank you ever so much for the beautiful gift you have given
us. Mother treasures her coconut fish very much. I surely love the pin you have given me and I will love to wear it on my
coat lapel. I was more than sorry that some of the people outside did not even get meat for Christmas, while we had regular
Christmas dinner with turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie, ice cream etc. A man donated Christmas tree for every mess halls
(almost 30). Ours was decorated by the residents of the block. The decorations were very clevery made out of crepe paper,
egg shells and odds and ends of other paper. A fireplace was made out of carboard for Santa Claus to come down. Gifts were
given to the children under 15 years of age from the Christian Society. Children were discouraged that it was not ‘white
Christmas’ but the next morning when we woke up the ground was just white than from afternoon we had a worst blizzard we saw
yet. May be it wasn’t for the natives but to me I thought it was terrible, I can’t see the next block which is about 200
feet. But this morning the th sky was very blue the sun was shinning so hard on the ground but the wind, it surely was cold.
New Years we are to have Americanized Japanese style, Omochi and such I think. Again I would like to thank you and other
teachers who made our Christmas so happy. I wish other country believes in “Love thy enemy)” than there will be no war.
We all have lots of fun playing with Monopoly. Thanks a million for every thing. Your most sincerely Mrs.
T. Hirose and Mizuye
