Description:
Typed letter from Paul H. Kusuda to Rev. Charles S. Reifsnider, 1943 Aug 2.
1900 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago 12, Illinois August 2, 1943 The Rt. Rev. Charles S. Reifsnider, D.D. 1940 Loma Vista
Street Pasadena 4, California My dear Bishop Reifsnider, On Sunday, August 1st, it was my pleasure and honor to
speak with Rev. John M. Yamazaki. During the course of the converstion, discussion revolved about my plans for the future.
Immediately, he suggested that I write to you. For quite a while, the field of social work, preferably of a post-war administration
nature, has appealed to me and I am firmly convinced that my future lies there-where I might be of as much help as possible
in human relations work. Unfortunately, my finances are exceedingly slim and because of that fact, my intentions were that
I work for perhaps a year or two until enough money was saved for tuition and other fees. However, Rev. Yamazaki advises
me that I begin to study without too much loss of time, so it might be for the better if I enrolled by February of next year.
In view of the present situation, I shall be in need of financial assistance. Will you please do me the favor of aiding
me with the locating of some type of scholarship? I shall be deeply indebted to you for anything that you might be able to
do. Los Angeles, California had been my home until our family evacuated to Manzanar, California. While in Los Angeles,
I was a member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. I graduated the Los Angeles High School in 1940 and then attended the
Los Angeles City College for two years. My major subject was pre-electrical engineering; therefore, undoubtedly when I again
resume my schooling, I shall begin as a freshman. If the necessity should arise for further information, I shall be
very happy to elaborate on what I have written. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully, Paul H Kusuda
